Two traffic accidents in Lower Saxony cause vehicle damage and bridge disruption

On 6 July 2026, a car driver on Landesstraße 586 between Hehlen and Sievershagener Mühle swerved to avoid an oncoming white truck and clipped a guardrail. The truck continued without stopping, prompting a police investigation for a hit‑and‑run and dangerous driving. No injuries were reported.

Later the same day in Jork, a 44‑year‑old driver of a transport van lost control on Neuenfelder Straße, collided with an oncoming BMW X3 and then struck a bridge barrier and a nearby power box. Both vehicles and the bridge infrastructure were heavily damaged, with repair costs estimated at over €60,000. The incident forced a temporary closure of the bridge, restricting ship traffic on the Este. Firefighters secured the scene and no one was injured. Authorities from the regional road authority were notified to arrange repairs.
