Two U.S. Marines arrested for assault during Okinawa Eisa Festival
The Okinawa All Island Eisa Festival commenced in Okinawa City on September 4, featuring traditional drum performances and parades known as ‘dojunee’. While the festival began with vibrant cultural displays by various youth associations, an incident occurred following the performances.
Okinawa Police arrested two U.S. Marines, aged 22 and 29, stationed at Camp Courtney, on suspicion of assaulting three Japanese men on Gate Street. The victims, aged 20, 24, and 46, were reportedly pushed and punched. The suspects were reportedly intoxicated at the time of the incident. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the altercation.
