Two visually impaired women receive OAB professional credentials
Two visually impaired women, Maria Vitória Gomes da Silva and Laura Soares Ferreira, have officially joined the legal profession in Goiás, Brazil, after passing the OAB Bar Exam on their first attempt.
During a solemn session at the headquarters of the Ordem dos Advogados do Brasil – Seção Goiás (OAB-GO), presided over by Rafael Lara Martins, the two women received their professional credentials. Both women specialized in Criminal Law during the second stage of the examination.
To overcome structural barriers during the exam, one candidate utilized assistive technology while the other received support from a reader and transcriber. Maria Vitória, who has congenital glaucoma, uses Braille and screen-reading software, while Laura manages low vision caused by retinitis pigmentosa.
