Italy arrests thieves who stole jewelry from elderly women in Chiaravelle and Viterbo
In Chiaravelle, two women aged 48 and 50 were charged with aggravated home burglary after they deceived an 87‑year‑old man and his 81‑year‑old wife, stealing gold jewelry and about €5,000 in cash on 22 August 2025. The suspects, already known to police, were detained by Carabinieri and remain under judicial investigation.
In Viterbo province, an 82‑year‑old woman fell victim to a similar scam. The perpetrators fled with the stolen gold hidden in their underwear and €500 cash, later being stopped on a highway near Rome on 16 May. Police recovered the jewelry, cash and a phone containing photos of the crime. One of the suspects, a 23‑year‑old previously arrested for a comparable fraud, is awaiting trial.
Both cases illustrate a pattern of fraud targeting elderly Italians, prompting coordinated police action across the regions.
