Two women have been charged following an assault on an off-duty Hillsdale Police Department officer at a QuikTrip gas station in north St. Louis County. The incident occurred on a Sunday morning while the officer was working a secondary security job.
According to charging documents, 20-year-old Nayonna Griffin allegedly threw items at the officer, leading to a confrontation. Shaniya Lewis, also 20, joined the struggle, allegedly punching the officer in the face and stomping on his head. During the attack, Lewis reportedly attempted to remove the officer’s service weapon from its holster.
Griffin is also accused of resisting arrest by kicking and flailing when additional officers arrived. Both women face charges of second-degree assault of a special victim and felony resisting or interfering with an arrest. They are each being held on $100,000 cash-only bonds. The officer was hospitalized for treatment, though the extent of his injuries has not been released.
