California murders: Two Malayali women killed, friend detained

Two Malayali women, identified as 35-year-old Anjana from Thrissur and 40-year-old Ann Mary Mathew from Thiruvananthapuram, were killed in Milpitas, California. Authorities have taken a third woman, Anila, into custody in connection with the deaths.

Reports indicate the victims were close friends who had recently celebrated the Onam festival together. The investigation suggests two distinct methods of attack: Ann Mary was allegedly stabbed inside her residence, while Anjana was reportedly struck by a vehicle. While some family members suggest a potential job-related dispute as a motive, others state the motive remains unknown.

In India, Union Minister Suresh Gopi has stated that steps are being taken to repatriate the mortal remains of the victims. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs and NORKA are coordinating with the Consulate General in San Francisco to facilitate the process.
