Moldovan family killed in Halkidiki collision, 7‑year‑old critically injured

On the afternoon of 15 July 2026 a head‑on crash occurred on the provincial road near Polygyros in the Halkidiki peninsula, Greece. A car bearing Moldovan plates carrying a family of four collided with a 44‑year‑old Greek tanker driver. The impact threw the car off the road. The 28‑year‑old mother and her six‑month‑old infant were pulled from the wreckage without signs of life. The 35‑year‑old father, who suffered severe cranial injuries, was taken to the General Hospital of Polygyros and died shortly after. Their 7‑year‑old daughter sustained serious head trauma and remains in intensive care at the Ippokratis Children’s Hospital in Thessaloniki. The younger sibling survived with serious injuries and is being treated at the Polygyros hospital. The tanker driver was arrested on a charge of negligent homicide. Fire‑ and rescue crews extricated the victims, traffic on the road was temporarily halted and later rerouted, and the local traffic police are conducting a pre‑investigation into the exact cause of the collision.
