Two Women Killed in Itajaí Motorcycle Collision on BR-101

A fatal traffic accident occurred on the morning of 12 June 2026 on the BR‑101 highway near Itajaí, Santa Catarina, Brazil. A mother, Solange de Fátima (43), and her daughter, Sthefanie de Souza Vaz (23), were riding a Honda Biz motorcycle when they attempted to maneuver between two trucks. Their motorcycle struck one of the trucks, causing them to fall onto the road and be run over by another truck.

Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene despite the rapid response of rescue teams, including the Federal Highway Police, the Military Fire Department and forensic investigators. The crash forced a full closure of the southbound lane of BR‑101, creating traffic queues that stretched more than 20 kilometres and affected thousands of drivers. The road was reopened around 09:25, but traffic remained slow as vehicles were cleared and the site examined. Authorities are investigating the accident's cause and dynamics.
