Two workers trapped by drainage concrete collapse in Jatinegara
On Sunday, August 9, 2026, two workers were trapped under collapsed drainage concrete during a sidewalk construction project on Jalan DI Panjaitan in Jatinegara, East Jakarta. The project was reportedly managed by the DKI Jakarta Bina Marga Agency.
The victims, identified as 25-year-old Udin and 40-year-old Syarifin, both residents of Pekalongan, were caught in the collapse around 14:00 WIB. One worker, Udin, was specifically noted to be trapped in a drainage channel approximately 1.5 meters deep, with his leg pinned by concrete and excavated soil.
Jakarta Timur Fire and Rescue (Gulkarmat) deployed six fire engines and 25 personnel to the scene, arriving at 14:56 WIB. Emergency medical services provided initial oxygen and IV support during the process. After a nearly three-hour operation, both workers were successfully evacuated at 17:39 WIB and transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
