Two-year-old child hospitalized after ingesting paint solvent in Salerno
A two-year-old child from Polla, in the province of Salerno, is in serious condition after accidentally ingesting paint solvent at home. The incident occurred when the child reached a container of the substance during a moment of distraction by the adults present, likely mistaking it for water.
Emergency services were alerted immediately. The child was first taken by ambulance to the Luigi Curto hospital in Polla for initial treatment and diagnostic tests. Due to the severity of the clinical situation and the toxicity of the substance, medical staff ordered an emergency transfer via medical helicopter to the Santobono pediatric hospital in Naples.
The child is currently undergoing a specific medical protocol at Santobono. Doctors are monitoring the situation closely, as solvents can cause severe lesions to the mouth, esophagus, and stomach, and can also impact internal organs such as the kidneys, heart, and liver once they enter the bloodstream.
