Two Young Men Arrested for Car Theft in Yvelines, France

Police from the Brigade anti‑criminalité (BAC) stopped a stolen Renault Clio in Mézières‑sur‑Seine, Yvelines, during the night of 23–24 July 2026. Two suspects, aged 20 and 22, were observed manipulating the vehicle’s dashboard with a screwdriver and an electronic starter‑box. Both were apprehended after a brief chase; the 22‑year‑old attempted to flee but was caught.

Evidence recovered included a starter‑box, a starter‑card and two screwdrivers. The suspects were placed in pre‑trial detention at the Versailles judicial court. The 22‑year‑old received a sentence of 22 months’ imprisonment, including a revocation of a suspended term, while the 20‑year‑old was sentenced to eight months in prison, later released pending a penalty‑adjustment hearing.
