Txingudi Marshes to receive 2.5 million euros for restoration

The Txingudi Marshes in Jaizubia, Gipuzkoa, will undergo a restoration project to recover 5.5 hectares of land. The initiative is supported by 2.5 million euros in European funding through the LIFE Wetlands program.

Promoted by the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council, the project aims to improve the conservation status of the ecosystem and strengthen its environmental value, particularly for species that depend on these wetlands. The area serves as a strategic corridor for migratory birds located between the Cantabrian Sea and the western Pyrenees.

During a recent visit to the site, Gipuzkoa General Deputy Eider Mendoza reviewed ongoing ecological efforts, including the scientific bird monitoring and ringing work conducted by the Aranzadi Science Society, which has operated in the enclave for two decades.
