Ty Burrell developing single-camera Coach reboot at NBC

NBC is developing a new version of the 1990s sitcom Coach, with Modern Family star Ty Burrell attached to executive produce and potentially star in the series. Unlike the original multi-camera format, this reboot is being developed as a single-camera comedy.

The new premise follows a legendary coach who returns to his alma mater in Minnesota to rebuild its basketball program and reconnect with his community. This marks a departure from the original series, which centered on college football.

Matthew and Daniel Libman, co-creators of Mr. Throwback, are writing and executive producing the project alongside Burrell, John Davis, and John Fox of Davis Entertainment. Universal Television is the studio behind the production. While Burrell is intended to star, an acting deal has not been finalized and the project has not yet received a formal series order.
