Ty Okada nears starting role after Bud Clark injury

Ty Okada has strengthened his position in the Seattle Seahawks' starting safety competition following a broken ankle suffered by Bud Clark. Head coach Mike Macdonald confirmed the injury occurred during the first defensive snap of a preseason game against the Tennessee Titans.

Okada, an undrafted free agent entering his fourth season, was already considered a favorite for the starting role after a breakout 2025 season in which he appeared in all 17 games and recorded 65 tackles. Teammate Ernest Jones IV noted Okada's growth in defensive command and reliability.

The injury to Clark, a former TCU safety selected in the second round, forces the Seahawks to re-evaluate their defensive depth as they prepare for the upcoming season.
