Tyla receives International Achievement Award at SAMAs
Two-time Grammy winner Tyla received the International Achievement Award at the 32nd South African Music Awards (SAMAs) held at the Sun City Superbowl in Rustenburg. The 24-year-old singer became only the second artist, following Black Coffee, to receive the AfriPure International Achievement Award twice.
During her acceptance speech, Tyla expressed emotion regarding her journey from a child dreaming of global stardom to performing at the SAMAs. She highlighted the challenges of navigating a career without a direct predecessor to serve as a roadmap, noting, “There’s never been a ‘Tyla’ before me.”
Tyla also dedicated her success to her South African roots, stating, “South Africa runs through my veins,” and thanked the nation for its support as she developed her career. She used her platform to celebrate other African artists and acknowledged the influence of her heritage on her music and dance.
