Tyler Adams named USMNT captain by Mauricio Pochettino

United States men’s national soccer team head coach Mauricio Pochettino has named midfielder Tyler Adams as the new team captain. The 27-year-old Bournemouth player succeeds Tim Ream, who announced his retirement from international soccer following the team’s recent 4-2 victory over Chile.

Adams previously served as captain during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Pochettino described Adams as a “perfect role model” for the team’s philosophy and future. Adams expressed his honor regarding the appointment, stating he is excited to help the group grow and take the next step in a new cycle.

The announcement comes during a series of international friendlies. Following recent wins against Peru and Chile, the USMNT is scheduled to face Mexico and Canada.
