Tyler Perry assists Illinois woman after Allstate denies insurance claim

Filmmaker Tyler Perry has pledged to assist Brenda Daurham, an 81-year-old retired hairstylist from Markham, Illinois, after her insurance claim was denied by Allstate. The dispute began in February following a burst pipe that caused significant water damage to Daurham’s home.

Daurham, who has paid homeowner’s insurance premiums for over 40 years, reported being told the damage was covered. However, Allstate subsequently denied the claim, citing policy exclusions related to seepage, deterioration, and wear and tear. This denial resulted in a restoration company placing an $18,000 lien on her property and left Daurham displaced from her home. The stress of the situation reportedly led to an emergency room visit for an anxiety breakdown.

After learning of the situation through local news, Perry criticized Allstate on social media, questioning the company’s service. Perry has committed to paying the $18,000 lien and covering the remaining costs for the necessary home repairs.
