Tyler Robinson’s Utah murder trial sparks $10 million taxpayer legal‑cost debate

A preliminary hearing was held in Provo, Utah for Tyler Robinson, the 23‑year‑old accused of fatally shooting Turning Point USA co‑founder Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University in September 2025. Prosecutors presented surveillance footage, forensic DNA matches, a video of Robinson’s surrender and a Discord message in which he allegedly admitted responsibility. Separately, state and county officials warn that defending Robinson could cost Utah taxpayers more than $10 million.
