Typhoon 13 heads toward Okinawa, Ogasawara with strong winds

Japan's Meteorological Agency reports that large, very strong Typhoon 13 is moving northwest at about 25 km/h. The storm will pass closest to the Ogasawara Islands on August 4, bringing sustained winds of 45 m/s, gusts up to 60‑65 m/s, and waves as high as 11 m. From August 5‑8 the typhoon is expected to track toward the southern islands, including Okinawa, Amami and Kagoshima, with heavy rain, storm surge and landslide risk.

The agency warns that the typhoon will also push warm, humid air into mainland Japan, raising temperatures in Kumamoto to around 39 °C and increasing heat‑stroke danger. Residents are advised to avoid the sea, secure windows, limit outdoor activity and stay informed of the latest forecasts.
