Typhoon 13 (Dolphin) threatens Okinawa as Japan faces a double‑typhoon situation
A large, strong Typhoon 13 (named Dolphin) is moving westward toward Japan with a central pressure of 950 hPa, maximum sustained winds of about 40 m s⁻¹ and gusts up to 60 m s⁻¹. The Japan Meteorological Agency expects the storm to come close to Okinawa around 9 August, bringing high waves, strong winds and a heightened risk of landslides. At the same time, Typhoon 15 (Chanho) is tracking northward with a central pressure of 996 hPa and winds of about 18 m s⁻¹, potentially affecting the east coast of the country by 10 August. After Typhoon 14 weakened to a tropical depression, the two remaining systems constitute a “double‑typhoon” scenario for the Japanese archipelago. Authorities have issued warnings for coastal regions from Kanto to Kyushu, advising against sea‑related recreation. In Okinawa, residents and businesses are preparing supplies such as water, instant noodles, flashlights and batteries. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology cancelled the high‑school graduation exam scheduled for 6‑7 August at the Okinawa venue, postponing it to 27‑28 August for the 124 affected candidates.
