Typhoon 23 expected to develop near Wake Island

A tropical depression near Wake Island is expected to develop into Typhoon 23 within 24 hours. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the system is moving slowly east and is projected to head north, passing far east of Japan.

Forecasts from the Japan Meteorological Agency, the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC), and the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) all indicate that the storm is unlikely to directly impact the Japanese archipelago. While the typhoon itself will remain at a distance, there is a possibility of swells reaching the Pacific coast of Japan, specifically affecting the Tokai, Kanto, and Tohoku regions between August 31 and September 1.

Additionally, Typhoon 18 continues to move west through the East China Sea. While it is moving away from Japan, high waves are expected to persist around the Okinawa region and the Southwest Islands.
