Typhoon 25 approaches Kanto, causing event cancellations and transit warnings

Large and powerful Typhoon No. 25 is approaching the Kanto region, with its closest approach expected on September 21. The storm is projected to bring heavy rain, strong winds, and high waves to eastern Japan, including the Izu Islands, Kanagawa, Tochigi, and Chiba prefectures.

Significant disruptions are expected across various sectors. The Tokyo Game Show has announced the cancellation of its September 21 event to prioritize participant safety. In Chiba, local festivals and library programs have been canceled. Transportation is also at risk, with JR East warning of potential delays or suspensions on the Sobu, Keiyo, and Musashino lines from the night of September 20 through the early morning of September 22.

In Kanagawa, authorities have warned of potential road closures on major expressways, including the Tomei and Shin-Tomei, due to heavy rain and wind. Residents in affected areas are advised to prepare for landslides, flooding, and rising river levels, particularly as rainfall totals in some regions could reach several hundred millimeters.
