Typhoon Podoi causes widespread disruption in Taiwan and East China

Typhoon Podoi, a strong typhoon, is causing significant disruption across Taiwan and East China. The storm is expected to make landfall along the coast between Zhoushan, Zhejiang, and Fuding, Fujian, between August 9 and 10.

In China, the typhoon has triggered red alerts, leading to the cancellation of numerous flights at 38 airports and the suspension of various railway services. Major cities including Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Ningbo are experiencing heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. The storm has also forced the cancellation of several celebrity concerts and impacted large-scale evacuations in Fujian province.

In Taiwan, the typhoon's outer circulation is bringing heavy rain and strong winds, particularly to northern and central mountainous regions. Local authorities in Lienchiang and Taoyuan's Fuxing District have suspended work and classes. Damage has been reported, including falling structures in New Taipei City and falling containers at Keelung Port. A 9-year-old boy was reportedly swept away by waves in Zhejiang prior to the storm's arrival.
