Typhoon Dujuan hits Japan, causing mass flight cancellations and evacuations FAST-MOVING

Typhoon Dujuan, the 25th storm of the season, is approaching Japan's eastern coast, bringing extreme weather risks to the Kanto, Tokai, and surrounding regions. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has issued high-level warnings for flooding, landslides, and violent winds, with the highest Level 5 alert activated for Oshima and the Izu Islands.

The storm has caused significant disruption to transportation and public events. Approximately 500 flights at Haneda and Narita airports have been canceled, including major services from Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways. High-speed Shinkansen services on the Tokaido line and several other railway routes have also been suspended. Additionally, the Tokyo Game Show has closed early, and an equestrian event at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games has been postponed to Tuesday.

Impacts on residents include power outages affecting over 4,000 households in Chiba and evacuation advisories for millions in the Tokyo metropolitan area. Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has postponed her scheduled trip to the United States to monitor the typhoon's impact. Forecasters warn that rainfall could reach record levels through Tuesday, particularly due to the potential formation of linear rain bands.
