Typhoon Koguma and triple typhoon activity pose travel risks to Japan
Three typhoons—Koguma, Nolo, and Choiwan—are currently active in the Northwest Pacific, creating a ‘triple typhoon’ situation that may impact travel during the upcoming holiday period.
Typhoon Koguma is expected to intensify significantly, potentially reaching a maximum wind speed of 49m/s and a central pressure of 935hPa by October 10–11. Its projected path heads toward the waters southeast of Japan. While direct impact on the Korean Peninsula is considered unlikely, the storm's proximity to Japan is causing concern for travelers regarding flight cancellations and maritime operations.
Typhoon Nolo is expected to weaken over time, potentially transitioning into a tropical depression by October 12. Meanwhile, Choiwan has already transitioned into a tropical depression. Travelers planning trips to Japan during the holiday period are advised to monitor weather updates, flight statuses, and ferry schedules closely due to the potential for weather-related disruptions.
