Typhoon Koguma moves north near Ogasawara Islands

Typhoon 29, known internationally as Koguma, is currently located near the Ogasawara Islands. As of midday on October 12, the typhoon is moving north at 25 km/h with a central pressure of 955 hPa and maximum wind speeds of 45 m/s. It is expected to reach the waters east of Japan by the morning of October 13 before transitioning into an extratropical cyclone on October 14.

While the typhoon is projected to move away from Japan, high waves are expected along the Pacific coasts of the Kanto and Tohoku regions. Additionally, a tropical depression is being monitored south of the typhoon, which may develop further due to high sea surface temperatures.

In Taiwan, weather officials report that Typhoon Koguma is situated southeast of Japan and is moving northeast. While most areas in Taiwan are experiencing sunny to cloudy conditions, there is a risk of long waves along the Taitung coast and the Hengchun Peninsula. A strengthening northeast monsoon is expected later in the week, which may bring cooler temperatures and increased rainfall to northern and eastern regions.
