Typhoon Red霞 forces massive transport cancellations and evacuations in Hong Kong and Guangdong

Typhoon Red霞 (international name Noul) intensified to a strong‑typhoon and moved northwest toward the Guangdong coast, where it made landfall near Shenzhen. Chinese authorities placed over 340,000 residents on evacuation orders and imposed “five‑stop” measures (suspending schools, work, production, transport and businesses). The Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge was temporarily closed.

In Hong Kong, the Observatory raised signal 9 (later 8), prompting widespread disruptions. China Airlines, EVA Air, and Cathay Pacific cancelled or delayed dozens of flights to and from Hong Kong, with more than 150 flights already withdrawn. MTR services on outdoor sections were suspended; limited service operated on several lines while bus routes were halted or reduced. High‑speed rail links between Hong Kong West Kowloon and mainland China were also cancelled. Residents posted on social media about severe wind noise, broken windows and even metal shoe cabinets blown away.

Taiwan’s Central Weather Bureau noted the typhoon’s outer rainbands, issuing strong‑wind warnings for eastern islands and the south, but no major impact was reported on the island.
