Typhoon Shuliki expected to turn north toward Japan

Typhoon Shuliki is expected to turn northward, posing limited direct impact on Taiwan but potentially affecting travelers to Japan. As of September 24, the system was located approximately 1,490 km southeast of Eluanbi, moving northwest-west at 22 km/h. While the typhoon is not expected to make direct landfall in Taiwan, its outer circulation may cause long waves along the eastern coast and the Hengchun Peninsula between September 26 and 27.

Weather experts predict the system will strengthen into a moderate typhoon due to high sea temperatures and low vertical wind shear. Its trajectory is influenced by the Pacific high-pressure system and northern upper-level troughs. Current projections suggest the typhoon will move toward the waters near the Ryukyu Islands and southern Japan.

For Taiwan, the Mid-Autumn Festival period is expected to remain mostly stable with sunny to cloudy skies, though temperatures may reach 35 to 36°C in some areas. Localized short showers may occur in mountainous regions or windward areas like Hualien and Taitung as the outer circulation approaches toward the end of the holiday period.
