TYPO3 and PHP implementation of WebSockets
A technical presentation titled ‘The Response is Now – WebSockets with TYPO3 Restrictions’ explores the challenges of implementing WebSockets within a TYPO3 and PHP environment. The core issue addressed is the inefficiency of traditional polling, where a browser repeatedly requests updates from a server, consuming unnecessary resources through full request-response cycles.
Unlike polling, WebSockets allow for a continuous, bidirectional connection, enabling real-time data transfer. The development process described was not a single success but a four-year journey involving multiple failed attempts and iterations. The final solution was built upon an initial, imperfect proof of concept from 2021, demonstrating that iterative experimentation and learning from errors are essential to technical development.
