Tyrese Samuel named CEBL Canadian player of the year

Tyrese Samuel has been named the Canadian player of the year for the second consecutive year by the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL). In addition to this title, Samuel earned selections to the All-CEBL First Team and the All-Canadian Team.

During his tenure with the Bandits, the Montreal native averaged 17.1 points and 8.7 rebounds per game, ranking third in the league in rebounding. His performance follows a stint with the NBA’s Phoenix Suns on an Exhibit 10 contract. Samuel is set to play overseas for the French club Cosea JL Bourg during the 2026-27 season.

Additionally, Mike Thomson, a FIBA-licensed referee instructor with nearly 50 years of experience, received the Fox 40 officiating recognition award for his contributions to the CEBL officiating program.
