Tyrol prepares for 2026-2027 winter with major ski infrastructure upgrades

The Austrian region of Tyrol is undergoing extensive infrastructure upgrades in preparation for the 2026-2027 winter season. These developments focus on modernizing ski resorts, expanding slopes, and improving snowmaking capabilities across major areas including Ischgl, Soelden, Serfaus, and the Hintertux Glacier.

Key projects include the replacement of aging lift systems with high-capacity cable cars. At the Hintertux Glacier in Zillertal, a new ten-person gondola will replace a forty-year-old four-person system starting in late October. In St. Johann in Tirol, the new Jodlalmlift is scheduled to begin operations on December 6, capable of transporting 2,400 people per hour to Mount Harschbichl.

Other significant updates include the Venetbahn in Zams, which will launch on December 19 with 44-person cabins and improved accessibility for people with reduced mobility. In Ischgl, the new eight-person Hoellkarbahn C2 will feature heated seats and weather protection. Beyond alpine skiing, the region is diversifying its winter offerings with new skating paths, winter trails, and family-oriented spaces.
