Tyrol traffic faces delays from construction and heavy travel

Traffic in the Tyrol region of Austria is facing significant disruptions due to ongoing infrastructure projects and heavy travel volume. On the Brenner Autobahn (A13), renovation work on the Luegbrücke bridge has resulted in single-lane traffic in both directions. To manage safety during these construction phases, which are expected to continue until 2030, a section control system has been implemented. This system calculates average speeds between two points to enforce a 60 km/h limit, rather than using traditional stationary speed cameras.

Heavy weekend travel has also caused widespread delays across major north-south transit routes. Significant congestion was reported on the B179 Fernpassstraße, with delays exceeding one hour, and at the Kufstein/Kiefersfelden border crossing on the A12. Additionally, high traffic volumes necessitated block processing at the Katschberg and Helbersberg tunnels on the A10, while delays were noted at the Karawanken tunnel heading toward Slovenia. An overturned truck on the A2 motorway near Villach further contributed to regional traffic issues.
