Tyson Bagent seeks starting role amid Bears injury concerns

Chicago Bears quarterback Tyson Bagent has expressed a strong desire to compete for a starting role rather than remaining a career backup. Despite the presence of Caleb Williams, Bagent remains a key figure in the team’s quarterback depth, currently under contract through the 2027 season.

Bears head coach Ben Johnson praised Bagent’s competitive attitude, noting that the quarterback is viewed as an elite backup capable of running the offense if Williams were to miss time. However, the team has reportedly brushed off trade inquiries regarding Bagent throughout the offseason, opting to retain him as a cost-effective option.

Bagent is currently dealing with a hamstring injury sustained during a preseason game. Head coach Johnson described the injury as week-to-week, which will result in some missed time in the immediate future.
