Tyson Philpot nears CFL Canadian receiving record

Montreal Alouettes wide receiver Tyson Philpot is approaching a significant CFL milestone. Heading into a matchup against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Philpot requires 135 receiving yards to break Terry Evanshen’s single-season Canadian receiving record of 1,662 yards, which has stood since 1967.

Philpot currently leads the CFL with 1,528 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. After facing injury challenges in previous seasons, the 26-year-old has played in all 14 games this year. Alouettes head coach Jason Maas noted Philpot’s significant growth and commitment to his physical preparation.

Beyond the record, the upcoming game carries personal and competitive stakes. Philpot expressed interest in helping his brother Jalen’s team, the Calgary Stampeders, secure a playoff spot by defeating Winnipeg. Additionally, the Alouettes are seeking redemption following a 44-28 loss to the Blue Bombers earlier in the season.
