Tzu Chi Bone Marrow Donor Program celebrates 33rd anniversary
The Tzu Chi Bone Marrow Donor Program celebrated its 33rd anniversary in Hualien, Taiwan, hosting a reunion for five pairs of donors and recipients who underwent hematopoietic stem cell transplants. The event highlighted stories of life-saving connections, including a Hong Kong recipient who traveled to Taiwan during the COVID-19 pandemic to receive a transplant that saved his life.
As of July 2026, the center has recruited nearly 500,000 volunteer donors and completed over 7,200 transplants across 31 countries and regions. Medical experts noted that the program accounts for approximately 40% of all stem cell transplants in Taiwan.
