UAAP adjusts September basketball schedule for national team support
The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) has adjusted its September basketball schedule for both men’s and women’s tournaments. The rescheduling aims to support student-athletes participating in international competitions for the national team, specifically the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, and the FIBA 3x3 Under-23 World Cup in Wuhan, China.
Due to these adjustments, only five gamedays will be held between September 13 and September 30. Erika Dy, executive director of Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, noted that the league’s support is vital for national team programs as many student-athletes are called up to represent the country. UAAP Season 89 President Mark Molina emphasized the league's commitment to helping athletes pursue national duties.
Season 89 festivities are set to begin with an opening ceremony on September 12 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. The first day of competition will take place on September 13 at the SMART Araneta Coliseum, featuring matchups between Far Eastern University and Adamson University, De La Salle University and National University, and the University of the Philippines against the University of Santo Tomas.
