UAAP Season 89: UP basketball tops first round as Ateneo and NU reach badminton semis

In the UAAP Season 89 collegiate sports competitions, the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons men's basketball team concluded the first round of eliminations with a 5-2 record, tying with the NU Bulldogs for the top spot in the league. Following a 91-81 win against the UE Red Warriors, center Gani Stevens noted the team's inconsistency, describing their play as “sloppy” at times despite securing victories against Adamson and UE.

In men's badminton, Ateneo de Manila University and National University have secured the first two semifinal berths. Ateneo, the defending champion, moved to a 3-0 record after defeating De La Salle University 4-1. National University also advanced to the semifinals following a 3-2 victory over the University of Santo Tomas, bolstered by a season debut performance from Ben Dictado.
