UAB faces labor inspection over mass dismissals of associate professors

Spain's Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) has been reported by the CGT and CSIF unions for at least 28 contract terminations of tenured associate professors, a figure that could rise above thirty. The unions also highlight 49 voluntary resignations during the same period.

The unions allege that the scale of dismissals may exceed the threshold set by article 51 of the Spanish Workers' Statute for a collective dismissal, and they have filed a complaint with the Labor Inspection to determine whether UAB should have initiated a formal collective dismissal procedure. They are also requesting that the university suspend any further contract terminations until the investigation is completed.
