UABC commemorates 55 years of the Campestre o Nada movement
The Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC) commemorated the 55th anniversary of the “UABC, Campestre o Nada” student movement. To honor the group's legacy, a commemorative plaque was unveiled at the Tijuana campus.
The movement, which originated in 1971, was composed of middle school, high school, and university students who advocated for the land necessary to establish a higher education space in the state. Their efforts resulted in the allocation of 20 hectares in the Otay area, where the Tijuana campus is currently located.
UABC Rector Luis Enrique Palafox Maestre praised the collective for its community-driven vision rather than personal interests. He noted that the movement’s perseverance provided the foundation for future generations to benefit from a strengthened public university system in Baja California.
