UABC strengthens binational academic cooperation with SDSU
The Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC) participated in the eighth RE:BORDER Binational Conference held at San Diego State University (SDSU). Under the theme ‘One Region: Border Innovation and Resilience,’ the event brought together academic institutions, researchers, students, and business leaders to address shared challenges in the Cali-Baja region.
UABC Rector Luis Enrique Palafox Maestre emphasized that university cooperation is essential for leveraging the capabilities of both Mexico and the United States to find solutions to common regional issues. The university presented 70 research posters and had five teams reach the finals of the Think Tank Pitch competition, which provides seed funding for transborder collaborative projects.
SDSU President Adela de la Torre noted that despite the political border, the two nations share environmental, economic, and social dynamics. Discussions also focused on the CaliBaja Higher Education Consortium (CHEC) as a platform to increase student mobility, promote joint research, and advance credit recognition and dual degree programs.
