UABCS commemorates 50 years since laying its first stone
The Universidad Autónoma de Baja California Sur (UABCS) held a commemorative ceremony on August 12, 2026, to mark the 50th anniversary of the laying of its first stone at the La Paz Campus.
During the event, university authorities, former rectors, and state representatives unveiled a monument and a historical plaque to honor the founding generation of 1976. The ceremony recognized the legacy of the academic community that established the institution, noting the original vision of former governor Ángel César Mendoza Arámburoy and the first rector, architect Tomás Valadéz Socota.
UABCS Rector Dante Arturo Salgado González emphasized that the unveiling serves as an act of memory and recognition for those who contributed to the institution’s development. The event brought together alumni, students, and officials from various municipalities, including La Paz, Los Cabos, Comondú, Loreto, and Mulegé, to celebrate five decades of academic, scientific, and cultural contributions to the state.
