State of Mexico to host first gastronomic encounter in La Marquesa
The State of Mexico will host the first Gastronomic Encounter, ‘Saberes y Sabores de mi Tierra’, on September 5 and 6 in La Marquesa. Organized by the government of Delfina Gómez Álvarez through the Secretariat of Culture and Tourism, the free event will take place at the Museo Batalla del Monte de las Cruces.
The event aims to preserve and promote the culinary knowledge of the region, featuring 56 expert cooks specializing in pre-Hispanic, indigenous, mestizo, and lacustrine cuisines. Attendees can sample traditional dishes such as pepeto, obispo, green chorizo, and the traditional tamal de ollita de Ocoyoacac, alongside traditional beverages like mezcal and atole de masa.
Representatives from five indigenous groups—Mazahua, Tlahuica, Matlatzinca, Otomí, and Nahua—will share their customs and culinary expressions. The program also includes a Producers' Pavilion for traditional ingredients and utensils, an Artisanal Pavilion, a five-kilometer hiking route, and various cultural exhibitions.
