UAE 5G Leads in Upload Speed and AI Latency, Ookla Report Finds

Ookla’s new AI‑focused 5G benchmark, based on 2025 Speedtest Intelligence data from 22 markets and 86 operators, argues that peak download speed no longer predicts network quality for AI apps. The report highlights upload capacity, latency under load, and the route to cloud AI platforms as the key metrics.

The United Arab Emirates ranks in the global top tier. It meets the conversational‑voice AI latency target with a median of 31.1 ms and records the lowest median loaded latency of any market at 288.4 ms. e& UAE also posts the highest median 5G upload speed of 57.5 Mbps, topping the entire dataset. These strengths benefit voice queries, image uploads, and real‑time AI agents.

Despite these gains, no market—including the UAE—reaches the sub‑10 ms latency required for AR and multimodal vision AI. Most markets still see upload traffic at around 10%, even as AI workloads shift toward an even split between uplink and downlink. The report underscores that networks optimized for download‑heavy traffic may feel sluggish for today’s AI‑driven use cases.
