Macron conducts Gulf tour to strengthen defense and energy ties

French President Emmanuel Macron is conducting a multi-day diplomatic tour of the Gulf region, visiting Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, and Qatar. The tour aims to secure energy supplies, including oil and gas, and strengthen defense partnerships amid heightened regional tensions and disruptions to maritime traffic in the Middle East.

In Kuwait, Macron met with Emir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, where the two nations signed agreements covering defense, artificial intelligence, and investment. In the UAE, Macron met with President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The leaders discussed maritime security, energy stability, and advanced technology. During the visit, they exchanged defense documents, including a Strategic Defence Partnership Framework, and toured several EDGE Group defense firms at the Tawazun Industrial Park.

In Bahrain, discussions between Macron and King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa focused on strategic cooperation, including the signing of a memorandum of understanding regarding the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. The tour follows recent regional instability and aims to bolster France's role in maintaining regional security and protecting international shipping routes.
