UAE expands multimodal logistics network to boost trade

The United Arab Emirates is expanding its integrated supply chain infrastructure to transition from a traditional import-export hub into an end-to-end logistics platform. This multi-modal strategy consolidates maritime, land, air, rail, and free zone operations to enhance transit adaptability and non-oil trade growth.

Key regional developments include a logistics corridor established by the Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority in coordination with Oman Customs. This corridor connects Sharjah’s coastal ports, such as Khorfakkan, with Omani ports including Sohar, Duqm, and Salalah. Additionally, Hafeet Rail has signed contracts to design and build railway facilities in Oman to expand cross-border capabilities.

Domestic infrastructure projects include the development of the Al Dhaid Logistics Complex in Sharjah and the expansion of air freight capacity through the Abu Dhabi Airports Free Zone, which includes the Al Falah Logistics Park and a new cargo terminal. Within the UAE, Etihad Rail reported transporting 129,000 containers and millions of tonnes of sulphur and aggregates across 11 terminals in 2026, linking major hubs like Jebel Ali and Khalifa Port.
