UAE Federal Tax Authority launches AI-driven VAT refund services and proactive tax platform
The UAE Federal Tax Authority (FTA) is expanding its digital transformation by integrating artificial intelligence across tax administration. AI is used for data analysis, risk assessment, request processing and automation, supporting the UAE Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2031 and the government’s broader smart‑government agenda.
A key milestone is the proactive VAT refund service for citizens building new homes, delivered via the Maskan smart app. Refund requests are generated automatically when a building completion certificate is issued, and the system verifies amounts and supplier tax numbers. Since its launch, the scheme has refunded about AED 3.72 billion to citizens. Processing times have dropped to roughly one minute and ten seconds, and digital kiosks now provide fully automated refunds for tourists.
The FTA also convened a VAT Business Advisory Group meeting with Emirati business representatives. Director‑General Abdulaziz Al Mulla said, “These meetings represent an important platform for constructive dialogue and the exchange of practical feedback between the FTA and representatives of the business community.” The forum aims to enhance tax compliance, improve digital services and strengthen public‑private partnership.
Overall, the authority’s AI‑enabled initiatives seek to simplify procedures, reduce administrative burdens and improve the customer experience for both residents and businesses.
