Abu Dhabi hosts 15th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice

The 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice has opened in Abu Dhabi, marking the largest gathering in the event's 71-year history. The congress, hosted at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), brings together approximately 5,000 delegates from over 97 to 119 countries, including ministers of justice and interior officials.

A central outcome of the opening is the adoption of the Abu Dhabi Declaration by acclamation. This global blueprint aims to establish priorities for crime prevention and criminal justice over the next five years, specifically addressing the challenges of the digital age. Key focus areas include cybercrime, human trafficking, money laundering, terrorism financing, and environmental crimes.

The congress emphasizes the need for international cooperation to combat emerging threats such as “crime as a service” and the criminal exploitation of artificial intelligence. Participants are encouraged to utilize technology to digitalize justice systems while maintaining essential safeguards like human oversight, transparency, and data protection. The event serves as a platform to translate international dialogue into actionable partnerships to protect people and the planet in accordance with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
