UAE implements heat stress protections for outdoor workers

The United Arab Emirates has implemented an integrated system of regulatory and humanitarian measures to protect outdoor and field-based workers from heat stress during the summer of 2026. From June 15 to September 15, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) enforces a policy prohibiting work in open spaces and under direct sunlight during midday hours.

To support these regulations, more than 12,000 air-conditioned rest areas equipped with essential amenities have been established for delivery workers through collaborations between government agencies and the private sector. Humanitarian efforts complement these rules, including the ‘Water for Life / Fatima bint Mubarak’ initiative by the General Women’s Union, which distributes water, juices, and dates to workers.

Local authorities are also active in safety promotion. Abu Dhabi Police is conducting the ‘Cool Their Summer’ initiative to raise awareness of occupational health and safety, while the Traffic and Patrols Directorate in Al Ain is running the ‘Summer of Goodness for Workers’ program in cooperation with Fazaa. Community-led efforts, such as Dubai’s ‘Neighbourhood Fridge’ campaign, further assist in providing relief to workers.
