UAE infrastructure projects include new E-911 highway and autonomous taxi testing

The United Arab Emirates is advancing several major transportation initiatives. The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has moved the planned E-911 highway project into the consultancy and design stage. This 68km federal corridor is intended to connect the Dubai-Sharjah border to Ras Al Khaimah, potentially featuring between 12 and 16 lanes. The project, estimated at AED6 billion, includes plans for 10 major intersections and four flyovers, with a connecting road to the E-611 in Umm Al Quwain.

In Dubai, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced temporary closures to facilitate autonomous taxi testing. From October 26 to 31, three lanes of the Emirates Road (E611) opposite Al Maktoum International Airport and the entire Al Maktoum International Airport Tunnel will be closed daily between 9am and 4pm. This testing aligns with national goals to deploy over 10,000 autonomous taxis and delivery vans by next year.
