UAE intensifies fight against AI fraud and money laundering

The United Arab Emirates is intensifying its efforts to combat financial crime through new strategic reports, international operations, and regional proposals. The National Anti-Money Laundering Committee reported that 95% of its 2024-2027 national strategy has been implemented, focusing on strengthening the financial system and preparing for FATF evaluations.

To address technological threats, the Ministry of Interior has expanded ‘Operation Confrontation Ghost’ to include 30 countries and 13 private sector partners. This initiative specifically targets AI-enabled fraud, online sextortion, and digital financial scams through real-time intelligence sharing.

Additionally, the UAE has proposed a regional initiative to tackle the rise in cross-border fraud, which officials link to instability caused by Middle East conflicts. This proposal is scheduled for formal presentation at the Middle East and North Africa Financial Action Task Force (MENAFATF) plenary meeting in Abu Dhabi this November.
